PICO The PICO is the technological evolution of the 2TAO, a machine that, when it came out in 1959, represented a revolution in chair-making. |
| The 2TAO produced
horizontal, inclined and vertical tenons using two workpiece
tables with an alternating movement in a completely automatic cycle. Today the PICO continues the innovative trend of the 2TAO. It is the only single-end rounding tenoner to have two stationary tables, mobile tools, and a special anti-splinter cutting cycle. Setting up the machine is a user-friendly operation: the tenon dimensions can be adjusted quickly and precisely thanks to mechanical digital readouts, and table positioning and workpiece guide are assisted by fine-precision gauges with millimetric graduation. The tables can be tilted downwards, upwards and laterally. |

Anti Splinter Cycle

| To avoid splintering a tool must cut from the outside in. In order to achieve this, the tool starting position must change depending on whether the tool is working on the right hand table or the left hand one, e.g. by starting the tenoning cycle from below on the left hand table. Figure A: shows the traditional anti-splinter cycle already used on the last 2TAO; Figure B: shows the cycle used on the PICO, where the tool changes position as it moves from one table to the other. The new system prevents the tool from moving twice on the processed tenon thus avoiding time losses to the benefit of an improved machining precision. |
